Last month, we had the wonderful opportunity to attend Volunteers of America’s Reno Works Graduation Ceremony to honor and celebrate the hard work, dedication and success of its graduates. Reno Works is a 12-week workforce development partnership program between Volunteers of America Northern California and Northern Nevada, and the City of Reno. The program was created in 2015 to offer homeless individuals a way to recover by addressing employment, social and emotional issues. Reno Works provides employment counseling, referrals, on-the-job training, financial literacy classes and a “Getting Ahead” workshop. The intensive life skills classes give the participants the tools necessary to gain sustained employment and self-sufficiency. Upon graduation, participants receive wrap-around services, including case management. We’re so proud to support VOA and their life-changing work. Last week, we had the wonderful opportunity to participate in the first-ever Nutrition Fair at one of our local schools. We hosted a table called the “Adventurous Eaters Club,” where children learned various mindful eating practices using fruits and vegetables that they can easily replicate at home. This is just another way we’re changing the way the world eats, one plate at a time. #FeelGoodFriday

Last week, the Parkinson's Foundation stopped by our Support Center to share some of the work they’re doing to improve the lives of individuals living with Parkinson’s disease and to promote their upcoming Moving Day on Saturday, May 18, 2024. Moving Day is an inspiring and empowering annual fundraising walk event that unites people living with Parkinson’s disease (PD), their care partners, and loved ones to help beat PD. Yolo Farm To Fork is a non-profit organization in Yolo County that educates children on where their food comes from and who the farmers who grow it are. It also helps them develop lifelong healthy eating habits. Yolo Farm to Fork also hosts field trips where kids visit a local farm, participate in hands-on farming experiences, learn cooking skills through on-site cooking classes (via their brand new Charlie Cart!), and tour their local Raley's store to learn more about how food ends up on their plates. We’re so proud to support Yolo Farm to Fork and its mission to impact future generations through nutrition and food system education. #FeelGoodFriday

Last weekend, we had over 60 team members and their families (along with 5 dogs!) walk in the shoes of our neighbors in need as Reno-Sparks Gospel Mission held their 14th Annual "Walk a Mile in My Shoes" on Saturday. This walk raises awareness and gives perspective on what people experiencing homelessness endure daily during cold winter months, with over 500 people marching from 1st and Arlington to downtown Mission on 4th and Record.
